Biography
Mr. Péter Bársony violist, professor at Kunstuniversität Graz and Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, Budapest, is frequent recitalist, soloist and chamber musician. His chamber partners include Márta Gulyás, Péter Frankl, Péter Csaba, Zoltán Kocsis, Joshua Bell, Kristóf Baráti, Barnabás Kelemen, Vilmos Szabadi, Miklós Perényi, Hagai Shaham. He performed with ensembles like Brentano, Ying, Miró, Kodály and Keller String Quartets.
He participates in prestigious internatonal festivals such as Ravinia Festival, Mostly Mozart, Schubertiada, kamara.hu, Kaposfest, Festival Academy Budapest. As a passionate contemporary music player Mr. Bársony frequently worked with György Kurtág, Péter Eötvös, Krysztof Penderecki, Sofia Gubaidulina and Steve Reich. Several composers dedicated viola works to him, Péter Eötvös, Ádám Kondor, Gregory Vajda, Balázs Horváth, Máté Balogh, Máté Bella, Patrik Oláh, József Sáry, László Sándor, László Tihanyi, Péter Tornyai, Marcell Dargay, Judit Varga, Tamás Beischer-Matyó, Levente Gyöngyösi, among others.
He has been invited as a guest principal violist to several orchestras like Budapest Festival Orchestra, Camerata Salzburg, Haydn Philharmonie, among others. He is giving regular master courses, teaching in all over Europe, China, UK, Hong Kong and in the USA. In 2012 Mr. Bársony was awarded the prestigious Liszt Ferenc Prize, the highest Hungarian Govermental musical award.
Solo appearances include concerts with Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra, Hungarian Radio Orchestra or Hungarian Symphony Orchestra, among other orchestras. Most of the his CD’s contain world premier recordings published at Hungaroton. Among his other recordings Mr. Bársony has recorded the Viola Concerto and Fusions of Ödön Pártos, complete Sonatas and the Viola Songs of J. Brahms with Péter Frankl and Ildikó Komlósi, complete duos for violin and viola of Joseph Haydn and Carl Stamitz with Vilmos Szabadi, the complete works for viola of the famous Hungarian violinist and composer Jenő Hubay – including the Concerto for Viola and Orchestra with Erkel Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Gregory Vajda, chamber works of Ferenc Farkas with Miklós Perényi. On his latest CD he recorded György Ligeti’s Sonata for Solo Viola, György Kurtág’s Hommage à R. Sch., and R. Schumann’s chamber music for viola, piano and clarinet with Izabella Simon and Gábor Varga. Mr. Bársony made his Carnegie Hall solo debut with the American Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Leon Botstein in May 2013.
